Guest backup failed with Exchange 2010 DAG (on Windows 2008 R2 SP1) on Hyper-V 2012 R2 Failover Cluster with DPM 2012 R2 UR2

Hello all,

We cannot backup our Exchange 2010 SP3 DAG on Hyper-V 2012 R2 using DPM 2012 R2 UR2 (guest backup was previously working with DPM 2012 Sp1 and Exchange 2010 SP3 DAG on Hyper-V 2008 R2 Sp1).

We have tried to disable ODX feature but did not resolve the problem.

DPM 2012 R2 Support and Hyper-V Workloads on REFS Storage

We have deployed all of our Virtual Machines on REFS filesystem. We are in the process of deploying DPM 2012 R2 and would like to know if there is any information available from Microsoft as to when REFS will be supported for Hyper-V workloads on REFS. Any information will help us plan for whether to move Hyper-V loads to NTFS.

I can see the Windows Server 2003 is now supported in UR2 and wonder if there is a roadmap available that will be included in future UR for DPM 2012 R2.

Also any information for re-enabling the integrity checking in VHDX after we move a VM from REFS to NTFS would be appreciated.

Will differencing VHD block the option of online backup in DPM 2012 R2?

I have a VM with a differencing VHD. the backup only show's as "offline" backup. I'm not able to get is "online". So when DPM perform the backup, it pauses the VM a little bit a it causes the application on it to slowdown/crash. 

I updated the Integration services from the Hyper-V host.

I've searched on the web for solutions, but nothing answers to this question so far...

Will DPM be able to make "online backup" of a VM with a differencing VHD?

Not getting option to Backup Using Child Partition Snapshot DPM 2012 R2

I am running DPM 2012 R2 fully patched.

I am trying to use Backup Using Child Partition Snapshot of a Hyper-V Server 2012 R2 Datacenter Cluster using CSV.

I get no option to use Backup Using Child Partition Snapshot, just online backup.

I have gone through the steps in the Microsoft document "Configure CSV Backups"http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh758027.aspx (Some steps did not apply due to my not using Windows 2008 R2)

Has "Backup Using Child Partiton Snapshot" been replaced by "\Online\VMName" ?

What am I missing?

Dear all,

Need your precius help in order to solved an issue I have when backuing up an SCCM + SQL server VM.

All the rest of Guest machines backup sucessfully.

Background info:

Cluster Hyperv 2008 r2 4Nodes

DPM (Phisical) 2012

SCCM Guest VM

Type of backup : VM backup + SQL DBs

SQL backup works great

VM backup produce the attaced errors

Hi everyone!

There is a hyper-v cluster built on Windows server 2012 datacenter, and SC DPM 2012 as a backup software. After we updated DPM to Rollup 5 backups of VM that using two or more cluster disks as a storage began to fail with an error he replica of Microsoft Hyper-V \Backup Using Saved State\xxxx on SCVMM xxxx Resources.xxxxx is not consistent with the protected data source. DPM error ID = 93. (ID 33123).  Even if I detach all disks, exept one from VM backup still fails with the same error.

Hi,

we are running a 6 Node 2012 R2 HyperV Cluster with two CSV Volumes hostet on an emc VNX5300 connected with FC. Everytime our DPM 2012 R2 is starting a backup of more than two vm machines the performance of the complete cluster is going down. The Server all fully patched....

We are getting event ID 5120 and 5217 in the failover Cluster manager, does anybody know a solution?

Hyper-V machines not backing up when SQL installed

Hi,

We are having an issue when backing up hyper-v machines in a 2012 cluster. DPM 2012
will attempt to backup the VM but the job will stay in the queue forever at
0MB. We think this may be because the vm's have SQL installed but are not sure.
Some other VM's without SQL are going through ok once the stuck jobs have been cancelled.

The Job does not error or fail just stays in the queue stopping all other VM backups.

If anyone has any ideas on this it would be greatly appreciated.

I have got one PG run 7 jobs at the same time and fail on DPM 2012 SP1.

Failed to prepare a Cluster Shared Volume (CSV) for backup as another backup using the same CSV is in progress. (ID 32612 Details: Back up is in progress. Please wait for backup completion before trying this operation again (0x8007173D))

it fails consistency check regularly. I have reinstalled 2012 SP1, but still same result.

Mike Jacquet has been very helpful and asked me to start a new thread for this thread.

Backing Up Hyper V and SQL

Hi

We have a 2 Node Hyper V 2012 Cluster. We are using DPM 2012. The Protection Group Number 1 we have is backing up SQL on our SSO Server. I tried creating another Protection Group Number 2, to complete a backup of the Hyper V of the same SSO Server. I am not able to complete a successful back of Protection Group #2 (Hyper V).

Does any know if it is possible to complete SQL and a Hyper V Backups on the same server?

DPM 2012 R2 Slow to expand Cluster Role and Add VM to backups

When i want to add a new VM to the backup.

I go to modify protection group, Expand the Cluster to see all the HA roles, then expand the VM i want so i can select it, this is where it is extremely slow. Once i expand the VM, an hour glass comes on under the VM and takes over an hour to give me option of Online/Offline backup to select.

Is any one else having this issue ? we do have over 500 hundred VM's in the cluster and don't remember to have this issue when we had just few in the beginning.

Hi,

I have one 2003 Server VM and every week it goes through consistency check without any reason and I tried to find the reason but not very clear to troubleshoot as other VMs are running fine and no issue whatsoever. does anyone know about it.

DPM 2012 unable to see Cluster Group

I need to backup User Profile Disks (vhd files) that are located on our cluster but I'm having problems doing so.  When I create a new protection in DPM I have a choice of the actual cluster and the servers that use the cluster.  If I expand the cluster I can see all the VMs that are located on that cluster but cannot see any of the disks on the cluster.  There is an option to expand cluster group but when I click on it nothing happens.  I'm lost, I'm stressed.  Any help would be appreciated.

Hello, I am trying to set prebackup script for DPM 2012 R2 UR2 on Windows 2003 R2 VM with SQL server 2005 Inside.

I would like to disable SQLVssWriter during the VM backups  (in DPM backup of \Online\Servername).

What is the correct format of ScriptingConfig.xml? This is what I have tried but it did not work.

Hyper-V 2012 to 2012 R2 cluster upgrade & backup with DPM

I will be upgrading our 2012 RTM Hyper-V Cluster to 2012 R2 on Thursday.  This means creating a new cluster and using the copy cluster roles wizard to move all roles to the new cluster as we are using a SAN and CSVs.  We are currently backing up our 2012 Hyper-V cluster with DPM 2012 R2.  Each VM is listed in DPM in the protection group as "StudentWebApps.HyperVCluster2.xxxx.xxx"  The name of the new cluster will be "HyperVCluster"  I need to keep all the existing backups and also get them transitioned to be backed up in the new cluster also.  What is the proper way to continue backing the VMs up?  Do I need to stop protection of all the members and add them back in from the new cluster?

Recovery point failure - DPM 2012 R2 backing up Hyper-V cluster 2012 R2

I just upgraded our Hyper-V Cluster from 2012 to 2012 R2. I am trying to get it working again with DPM 2012 R2 and am having problems.  DPM creates the replica fine but when it tries to create a recovery point, it fails with the following error:

Change Tracking has been marked inconsistent due to one of the following reasons
1. Unexpected shutdown of the protected server
2. Unforeseen issue in DPM Bitmap failover during cluster failover of one or more datasources sharing the tracked volume. (ID 30501 Details: The parameter is incorrect (0x80070057).

I then ran a consistency check and that worked fine.  I tried to take another recovery point and it fails with the same message again.  Why is this occurring?

Express Full backup of Hyper-V with SMB sending entire VHDX

We have DPM 2012 R2 (no rollup) protecting a Hyper-V VM. The VM has two drives, one local to the VM host and one on an SMB 3.0 server. All servers are running Server 2012 R2 (DPM server, VM host, and SMB server). The SMB server is running storage spaces.

The VM drive on the SMB share is about 1.5TB in size.

Every backup of the VM using DPM is sending the entire 1.5TB rather than just the incremental changes.

Anyone have an idea on why?

Backing up a VM with multiple vhds attached

Hi all,

Is it possible to backup just the system .vhd of a VM that has multiple .vhds attached. We have some VMs that have multiple .vhds associated with them that are storing data and I would like to backup the VM, but only the system .vhd. Is it possible via PowerShell?

Issue with Backups for CSV based Virtual Machines with DPM 2012R2

Hi All,

I have a Windows 2012 R2 & DPM 2012 R2 driven cluster. I'm facing an issue with taking backups of VMs based on the CSV attached to the cluster.

All backups that are not based on the CSV are working correctly - basically volumes and VMs on other hosts not a part of the cluster.

For all machines running via the cluster storage (which is a RAID 5 iSCSI Target), I get an error saying the replica is inconsistent. Also, consistency check and synchronization don't do the trick. No data transfer takes place between the CSV and the DPM server - looking at a job in progress for a VM shows 0 data transfer for around 5 minutes - and then the item in the protection group errors out with Replica Inconsistent.

What am I missing here? - the DPM agent is installed on all the hosts as well as the RAID server which holds the CSV. I've also made changes to the registry to use the Software Provider. Also, should I install the VSS providers for the CSV on the RAID server (all the hosts already have VSS providers for CSV).
