Backup of Hyper-V virtual machines to tape

I'm using a trial of DPM 2012 to backup to tape a virtual machine hosted on Windows 2008 Hyper-V.

I've installed the agent on the Windows 2008 machine.

I've created a Protection Group and on DPM and selected, under 'HyperV', 'Backup using Saved State/<server name>'.

This works and the backup is completed. However only the virtual disk (.vhd) is backed up. The virtual machine configuration is not.

What is the correct way to backup a Hyper-V machine? Do I need to include the volume where the machine is located?
