unable to backup some of the VMs through parent patition

Hi all,

I've been scratching my head all day long so I thought that I best post a question here and hopefully get some help soon. so here's some info about the environment:

4 Hyper-V hosts, 2 in each cluster. all running windows server 2008 r2 SP1 data center edition. all other servers that we have are virtual servers running on both clusters and they are all windows server 2008 r2 SP1 enterprise edition. among those VMs one that's running DPM 2012 (No SP1 yet) but planned to be installed in the near future.

we backup the entire environment using this DPM server and we use Fire streamer for tape library.

the problem is that we are facing is that we are not able to backup some of the VMs at the parent partition level. to be specific we are not able to backup any VM that had the agent installed on it to perform backups at the child partition or at the VM level, but then we switch them to back them up at the parent partition by uninstalling the agent from them.

things I've done so far:

  1. Confirmed that all of those VMs have the integration services installed and are enabled on the VMs settings. including the VSS writer.
  2. Rebooted those VMs.
  3. I checked the VSS writer on the host servers all they all show No Errors.
  4. none of the VMs have dynamic disk.
  5. Nothing in the application, system or DPM Alerts logs.
  6. I've searched and read lots of threads, but have not found one that matches that the issue in question.

any help with this is greatly appreciated.
